To deploy the Windows Server Network Load Balancing (NLB) Management Pack in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007, you must download the installer, unpack the files, configure agent proxy settings, and import the package into your console.
Deploying this management pack gives you complete visibility into the health and status of your NLB clusters and individual cluster nodes. 1. Download and Extract the Files
Obtain the files: Download the installer from the Microsoft Download Center or standard SCOM catalog.
Run the installer: Double-click the downloaded .msi file on your management station.
Extract contents: Follow the installation wizard prompts to unpack the management pack files (.mp or .xml) and documentation to a local directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs). 2. Enable Agent Proxying (Critical Step)
NLB clusters run across multiple nodes, meaning SCOM agents must be explicitly authorized to discover resources outside their immediate single-system boundary. If you skip this step, discovery will fail.
Open console: Launch your SCOM Operations Console and navigate to the Administration workspace.
Find agents: Expand Device Management and select Agent Managed.
Modify security properties: Double-click each individual agent server that participates in your NLB cluster.
Allow proxying: Click the Security tab, check the box for “Allow this agent to act as a proxy and discover managed objects on other computers,” and hit OK. 3. Verify Prerequisites
The NLB Management Pack depends on underlying library foundations. Ensure you have already imported the following core components before proceeding: Windows Server Core OS Library
Windows Server 2003 / 2008 / 2012 Operating System Management Packs (corresponding to your environment’s OS version) 4. Import the Management Pack
Launch import wizard: In the Administration space of the console, right-click Management Packs and select Import Management Packs. Select files: Click Add, then select Add from disk.
Locate .mp files: Navigate to the directory where you extracted the files in step 1, select the NLB management pack files, and click Open.
Execute install: Confirm the status indicator is a green checkmark, then click Install to finish the process. 5. Tune and Customize
