TileIconifier is a free, open-source portable utility that allows you to bypass Windows restrictions and fully customize your Start Menu tiles. While natively designed for the robust tile system of Windows 10, it can also be used in Windows 11 if you utilize third-party Start Menu restoration tools like Start11 to bring back Windows 10-style tiles.
The app functions by generating and attaching custom XML files to your software shortcuts, forcing Windows to display your chosen images, scaling, and background colors. Step 1: Download and Run the Tool
Download the standalone ZIP file from the official TileIconifier GitHub Releases page. Extract the contents to a folder of your choice.
Launch TileIconifier.exe; it is entirely portable and requires no formal installation. Step 2: Select an App to Customize
Upon opening, the tool will automatically scan and list all your pinned Start Menu shortcuts.
Scroll through the list and click on the application or game you want to modify. Step 3: Choose and Adjust Your Image
Double-click on the medium or small logo boxes on the right, or click Change Image.
Select an image from your computer (PNG files with transparent backgrounds yield the cleanest aesthetic).
Use the built-in sliders to zoom in or out, and click-and-drag the image to reposition it precisely within the tile frame. Step 4: Refine the Background and Text Colors
Click the background color picker to replace the default Windows accent color with a custom color hex code.
Locate the foreground text settings to change the text color between Light and Dark.
Check the box to Disable Foreground Text if you prefer a clean, minimalist tile featuring only your custom artwork. Step 5: Apply the Changes
Click the Tile Iconify! button in the bottom right corner to generate the configuration files. Open your Start Menu to view your newly customized tile.
To revert a tile back to its original Windows design at any time, select the app again and click Remove Iconify. Advanced: Handling Folders and Special Links
Standard Windows folders and Steam games cannot normally be customized this way because they lack direct .exe paths. To modify these:
Navigate to Utilities > Custom Shortcut Manager within the app menu. Click Create New Custom Shortcut.
Target your desired folder path, Windows Store app, or URL link, and generate the special shortcut.
Pin this newly created shortcut from the “Tile Iconifier” folder in your All Apps list to your Start Menu, then customize it using the standard steps above.
